Big Red (C. hyb. Wynne Rayner X C. j. “Bob Hope”) is a Australian bred variety raised in Victoria.
Big Red is the result of hybridizing two Camellias one parent being a Williamsii* hybrid (*Williamii hybrids were first achieved in Cornwall in 1923 by a Mr. J. C. Williams and hybrid was named after him.)
It is very unusual to get a Williamii hybrid with red flowers especially one with such large perfectly symmetrical formal double style blooms. I’m sure this will be a winner at Camellia shows as well as in the garden. We are very excited to see how this performs.
Its growth is strong and upright with rich green foliage. Midseason flowering
